A wall with an area of (3x2 + 4x + 1) square units has a rectangular window that has a width of (x + 2) units and a length of (x

+ 1) units. The wall also has a built-in shelving unit that occupies an area of (x2 + 5x + 6) square units of wall space. If the wall is to be covered with wallpaper, how much wallpaper will be required?

Answer:

the total available area = (3x^2 + 4x + 1) - (2x^2 + 8x + 8) = x^2 - 4x - 7

Step-by-step explanation:

The question seems to ask available area and not how much wallpaper is required. Let's calculate the area of the rectangular window. Area of a rectangle = Length * Breath Area = (x + 2) * (x + 1) = x^2 + 3x + 2 The wall also has a built- in shelving unit that occupies an area of (x^2 + 5x + 6). So total area occupied by the rectangular wall and shelf is (x^2 + 3x + 2) + (x^2 + 5x + 6) = 2x^2 + 8x + 8. If the wall is to be covered with wallpaper

Your family takes a road trip to Berlin for the weekend. You've driven 120 miles so far, but need to travel 400 miles
BabaBlast [244]

Answer:

280 more miles.

Step-by-step explanation:

The question stem "how many more" usually means your going to need to subtract somewhere in this problem.

If your destination is 400 miles away, and you have already driven 120 miles, all we need to do it subtract 120 from 400.

400 - 120 = 280

1. substitution....because it would be easier to just sub one y in for the other then it would be to use the elimination method

2. substitution....because in one of the equations, u already have y...so just sub 6x - 13 in for y in the other equation

3. elimination....all u have to do is add them and ur y terms are eliminated, allowing u to find x

4. substitution....sub in x + 1 for y in the other equation
     2x + 4(x + 1) = 28          y = x + 1
     2x + 4x + 4 = 28             y = 4 + 1
     6x = 24                           y = 5
     x = 4
the solution for this system is : (4,5)

5. elimination..
    3x - y = -1                        3(-2) - y = -1
    2x + y = -9                        -6 - y = -1
  ------------------add                -y = -1 + 6
   5x = -10                              -y = 5
    x = -2                                  y = -5
the solution to this system is : (-2,-5)

6. substitution.....sub in one y for the other
    2/3x - 1 = -x + 4              y = -x + 4
    2/3x + x = 4 + 1              y = -3 + 4
    5/3x = 5                          y = 1
    x = 5 * 3/5
    x = 3
so the solution to this system is (3,1)

7. substitution...sub one y in for the other
    296 - 10x = 200 + 6x                y = 200 + 6(6)
    296 - 200 = 6x + 10x                y = 200 + 36
    96 = 16x                                   y = 236
    6 = x
so the solution for this system is (6,236)

Olivia is considering two phone plans. Plan A charges $20 per month, plus $0.05 per minute. Plan B charges $15 per month plus $0
amid [387]

Step-by-step explanation: Answer is 10

For this type of problem, we need to create a slope intercept equation for both.

Let's start by making one for plan a. We know that there is 20 dollars per month, this is the y intercept. Now, although it says per month which can change by x, the problem is mainly asking for minutes.

Remember, a slope intercept equation is

y=mx+b

M is the slope, and x is multiplied to the slope. The slope for an example can be used for this, adam eats 5 apples per day or x, how many apples can he eat in 5 days? We are wanting to know how many he can eat in 5 days, so we of course would multiply 5 by 5. This is basically a slope equation.

So, for plan a, we have y=0.05x+20 where x is minutes

For plan b, we should get

y=0.10x+15 where x is also minutes. The problem is asking use to find which value that we plug in will make both plan a and b correct. Basically, the value we find is x, so we solve for x by setting the two equations equal.

0.05x+20=.10x+15 Use inverse operations

20=.05x+15

5=.05x

x=10

We know if we plug in 10 for x, both would equal the same or 21 dollars.
