So if you want it to be 9 less than your number (x) then you would subtract nine.

So it would be:

x - 9.

So if your "number" is 12 then you would substitute x for 12 and it would be 12-9. The answer is 3. So 3 is 9 less than a number (12).

A 15 ft. Ladder is placed against a building so that the distance from the top of the ladder to the ground is 10 ft. Find the di
kipiarov [429]

Answer:

  11.2 ft

Step-by-step explanation:

Assuming the building meets the ground at right angles, the right triangle formed has side length 10 ft and hypotenuse 15 ft. Then the other side length (d) is given by the Pythagorean theorem as ...

  d² + 10² = 15²

  d² = 225 -100 = 125

  d = √125 = 5√5 ≈ 11.2 . . . feet

The bottom of the ladder is about 11.2 feet from the building

Step-by-step explanation:

Step 1: Define

Identify

y = -23(x + 9) + 4

y = 0

Step 2: Solve for x

  1. Substitute in y:                                                                                                  0 = -23(x + 9) + 4
  2. [Subtraction Property of Equality] Subtract 4 on both sides:                        -4 = -23(x + 9)
  3. [Division Property of Equality] Divide -23 on both sides:                                4/23 = x + 9
  4. [Subtraction Property of Equality] Subtract 9 on both sides: -203/23 = x
  5. Rewrite:                                                                                                             x = -203/23
