Things Fall Apart is a novel that is written  by Chinua Achebe, and it talks about the  traditions of the Umuofia clan. It includse some Ritual etiquette between the host and the guest in which the host and the guest pass a kola nut between  each other till the nut is broken by the  host .The breaking of the kola nut represents the tradition of  honoring of gods and ancestors by the hoost

chi is called the  personal god,the tribe belive that  if a person experiences misfortune he has a bad chi.

Okonkwo the main character of the novel is a well -respected member of the Umuofia clan. The character of okonkwo is represented as  stern and powerfu.His greatest fear is that he does not want to become like his father whom he considered to be lazy,and cowardly. Okonkwo always felt that his father has feminine characteristics.This fear has an adverse impact on the  Okonkwo’s behavior and personality. His relationship with his family is more like a dictator.

In other words the character of Okonkwo is based on the ideas of  normative Igbo on the  masculinity
