"Don't eat candy," my health teacher warns, "it's bad for you!" I slide another jolly rancher into my mouth as she continues her rant. I couldn't care less about her ideas about health because I already take care of my body! You see, I am a plant-based vegan. There's vegan candy, bread, sweets, and everything you could want—even marshmallows! The key is the "plant-based" part. This means that the majority of my diet is natural, plant foods that are minimally processed (if at all). I believe in moderation, and without dairy or meat in my diet, it's easy to do. When you don't eat animal products, you can eat plentiful portions and maintain a healthy weight. I've been vegan for four years, but after one year, I lost 30 lbs and have kept it off since. I wish I could tell my class about my diet, but I don't think my teacher would like that, so I've decided to write an essay to persuade them to switch to eating vegan. I want to convince my peers that veganism is healthy, and a better alternative to the way that they are eating than what the school recommends. I found a government article about the health benefits of being vegan at this link: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4073139/. In the article, multiple research studies are cited, too. This article http://europepmc.org/abstract/med/10943644 states that different diseases have shown improvement when the affected patients have been introduced to eating a vegan diet. Even though some people might not be concerned about their health, they will be interested in learning how they can look better without compromising their beloved sweets. This information needs to be shared, don't you think?
Another example could be more bland, but perhaps more straightforward, like this:
I decided to write my persuasive essay about a topic close to my heart: veganism. For me, veganism is not just a way of eating, it is a lifestyle. When even one person eats a vegan diet, they benefit themselves and the environment. A vegan diet has been scientifically proven to reduce the severity of diseases and symptoms, as well as promote overall health and weight loss. One article that I will use as evidence for these health benefits is http://europepmc.org/abstract/med/10943644. Now, how can a vegan diet help the environment? To make the answer short, I'll just say it saves resources. The more people who eat vegan, the more significant the amount of save resources becomes. These article is one that I will be using to support the environmental argument for becoming vegan: http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/78/3/660S.short and https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1240832/. Other than environmental and health reasons, there is ethical reasons of course. The horrible living conditions for animals and the abuse they endure is the third reason why people may want to become vegan. The article that I will use to defend the reliability of the accounts of animal abuse in the agriculture industry is "Beyond the Law: Agribusiness and the Systemic Abuse of Animals Raised for Food or Food Production" by David J. Wolfson. Not only do I believe that more people eating a vegan diet will benefit the world, I can prove it.
