Answer:

a) The probability that an article of 10 pages contains 0 typographical errors is 0.8187.

b) The probability that an article of 10 pages contains 2 or more typographical errors is 0.0175.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : The expected number of typographical errors on a page of a certain magazine is 0.2.

To find : What is the probability that an article of 10 pages contains

(a) 0 and (b) 2 or more typographical errors?

Solution :

Applying Poisson distribution,

N\sim Pois(0.2)

P(N=r)=\frac{e^{-np}(np)^r}{r!}

where, n is the number of words in a page

and p is the probability of every word with typographical errors.

Here, n=10 and E(N)=np=0.2

a) The probability that an article of 10 pages contains 0 typographical errors.

Substitute r=0 in formula,

P(N=0)=\frac{e^{-0.2}(0.2)^0}{0!}

P(N=0)=\frac{e^{-0.2}}{1}

P(N=0)=e^{-0.2}

P(N=0)=0.8187

The probability that an article of 10 pages contains 0 typographical errors is 0.8187.

b) The probability that an article of 10 pages contains 2 or more typographical errors.

Substitute r\geq 2 in formula,

P(N\geq 2)=1-P(N

P(N\geq 2)=1-[P(N=0)+P(N=1)]

P(N\geq 2)=1-[\frac{e^{-0.2}(0.2)^0}{0!}+\frac{e^{-0.2}(0.2)^1}{1!}]

P(N\geq 2)=1-[e^{-0.2}+e^{-0.2}(0.2)]

P(N\geq 2)=1-[0.8187+0.1637]

P(N\geq 2)=1-0.9825

P(N\geq 2)=0.0175

The probability that an article of 10 pages contains 2 or more typographical errors is 0.0175.

A rectangular garden must have a perimeter of 160 feet and an area of at least 1300 square feet. Describe the possible lengths o
Morgarella [4.7K]

Answer: The lengths of the garden are 57.32 feet and 22.68 feet (approximately)

Step-by-step explanation: The area has been given as 1300 which means,

Area = L x W

1300 = L x W ———(1)

Also the perimeter has been given as 160, hence we also have

Perimeter = 2(L + W)

160 = 2(L + W)

80 = L + W ———(2)

From equation (2), make L the subject of the equation

L = 80 - W

Substitute for the value of L into equation (1)

1300 = L x W

1300 = (80 - W) x W

1300 = 80W - W^2

Rearranging the equation we now have;

W^2 - 80W + 1300 = 0

Since we cannot factorize we shall apply the quadratic equation formula to solve for W. Please refer to the attachment for details of this.

Having calculated the value of W to be either 57.32 or 22.68, we can now find the value of L as follows;

Substitute for the value of W into equation (1)

1300 = L x W

1300 = L x 57.32

Divide both sides of the equation by 57.32

22.68 = L.

(Note that if we take the other value of W which is 22.68, the value of L shall be 57.32)

Since the area of the rectangular garden must be AT LEAST 1300 square feet we shall use the exact values for;

Length = 57.32 feet

Width = 22.68 feet

The feet of a commemorative parabolic steel arch 100m high are 200m apart. Determine whether the focus of the arch is above or b
Neko [114]
<span>First of all, there should be coherence for the units of measurement -- either they are all meters or they are all ft. I would assume they are all ft. The correct answer is 75 ft above. T The explanation is the following: suppose the ground level is the x-axis, the 2 feet of the arch lie respectively on (0,0) and (100,0) on the ground level. Since the arch is 100ft high, the vertex of the parabola will be the point (100,100). Thus, we can find the equation describing the parabola by putting the three points we know in a system and we find that the equation of the parabola is y=(-1/100)x^2+2 To find the focus F, we apply the formula for the focus of a vertical axis parabola, i.e. F(-b/2a;(1-b^2+4ac)/4a). By substituting a=-1/100, b=2 and c=0 into the formula, we find that the coordinates of the focus F are (100,75). So we conclude that the focus lies 75ft above ground.</span>

Which of the following is most likely the next step in the series ?
GalinKa [24]

\huge \boxed{\mathfrak{Question} \downarrow}

  • Which of the following is most likely the next step in the series ?

\large \boxed{\mathfrak{Answer \: with \: Explanation} \downarrow}

  • The next series is most probably going to be <u>option </u><u>D.</u><u> </u>
  • We can see from the series that, figure 1 has 4 points marked on the circle from which they formed a rectangle.
  • In the next figure, there are 3 points marked which together when joined forms a triangle.
  • Then the next circle has 2 points marked on it which makes a straight line.
  • So, obviously the next figure/circle in the series should have only 1 point marked on it. This won't form anything as you can't join just 1 point with something.

Please simplify this fraction c:
Liula [17]
F you just want to see the really short way, just skip down to AAAAAAAAAAAA

so, here is the long explanation
exponential properties
x^{-m}= \frac{1}{x^m}

don't forget pemdas
2x^2=2(x^2)

so
\frac{2x^{-4}}{3xy}=\frac{2 \frac{1}{x^4} }{3xy}=  \frac{2}{3x^5y}

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
so we see
the original equatio is
\frac{2x^{-4}}{3xy}

remember
\frac{ab}{cd} =( \frac{a}{c})( \frac{b}{d})

so we can seperate the constants
\frac{ab}{cd} =( \frac{2}{3})( \frac{x^{-4}}{xy})

we know that the placeholders cannot affet the position of the constants unless they are grouped together which they are not

terfor the answer must have 2/3 in it

the only one that hsa that is A
