The states were represented by pillars in a foundation because it was the manner to represent the Constitution ratificacion process of every state, and also the pillars depicted that the United States was founded in the 13 pillars, that represented the 13 states together. Whereby in September 17, 1787, the Constitucional Assemble approved and acepted the new Constitution, then on September 28 the Congress ordered to the state legislatures to convoke assemblies to ratify the Constitution in every state, but the article specified that nine states had to ratify the Constitution before it was implemented, so there were carried out the assemblies, but some states were against the Constitution, only 5 ratified it (Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia and Connecticut) and due to that, with the objective to promote the ratification by the other States, on January 16, 1788, was published the first one of the Federal Pillars (That were a succession of prints issued for several months) where was showed 5 pillars refferring to the 5 states that had ratified the Constitution until that moment, and then in June 11, 1788, was printed the second one where 3 states (Massachusetts, Maryland and South Carolina) in addition to the previous 5, ratified the Constitution. And finally, on August 2nd, 1788, appeared in the third print the New Hampshire, Virginia and New York pillars, representing the 3 states in addition to the 8 previous that ratified the U.S. Constitution.

List and explain four new methods or inventions in agriculture in this era.
ipn [44]

Answer:

1. Cotton Gin: In colonial times, cotton cloth was more expensive than linen or wool because of the extreme difficulty of separating seed from the clinging fibers. One man could pick the seeds from only about 1 pound of cotton fiber per day.

2. Reaper/Binder: Small grains had been harvested by hand for centuries, cut with sickles or scythes, hand-raked and tied into sheaves. Grain harvesting machines first appeared in Great Britain in about 1800, and in the U.S. a decade or two later, but most failed. Obed Hussey and Cyrus McCormick developed successful reapers during the 1830s.

3. Thresher: When grain was being cut by hand, the method for separating the kernels from the straw was equally slow and labor intensive. Grain was hauled to a barn where it was spread on a threshing floor and either beaten with hand flails or trampled by animals. That knocked the kernels free of the straw, which was then raked away. The remaining mixture was winnowed by tossing it into the air where the wind was relied upon to blow the chaff and lighter debris away from the heavier grain, which fell back onto the threshing floor.

4. Combined Harvester-Thresher: By the 1920s the steam traction engine was on it's way out, but it paved the way for the gasoline tractors that followed.
