pychu [463]

When the occurrence of one event say A does not affect the occurrence of another event say B, than the two events are said to be independent such that;

\\
P(A\cap B)=P(A)\times P(B)

where, P(A) = probability of occurrence of event A

and P(B) = probability of occurrence of event B

(a).

Now, let event A = Sarah scores more than 175

and event B = Thomas scores more than 175

Thus, P(A)= Probability that Sarah scores more than 175 = 0.4

and P(B)= Probability that Thomas scores more than 175 = 0.2

Since, the scores are independent, thus the probability that both Sarah and Thomas scores more than 175 is,

\\
P(A\cap B)=P(A)\times P(B)\\
P(A\cap B)= 0.4\times 0.2= 0.08\\

Hence, the required probability is 0.08

(b).

When the occurrence of one event say A affects the occurrence of another event say B, than the two events are said to be dependent such that;

\\
P(A\cap B)=P(A)\times P(B\setminus A)\\

Now, let event A = Sarah scores more than 175

and event B = Thomas scores more than 175

Thus, P(A)= Probability that Sarah scores more than 175 = 0.4

         P(B)= Probability that Thomas scores more than 175 = 0.2

and P(B|A) = Sarah scores more than Thomas given that Thomas scores more than 175 = 0.3

Thus, the required probability is calculated as follows;

\\
P(A\cap B)=P(A)\times P(B\setminus A)\\
P(A\cap B)=0.2\times 0.3=0.06

When it is 4:00 a.m. in Halifax, it is 1:00 p.m. in Karachi, and when it is 9:00 a.m. in Karachi, it is 5:00 a.m. in Warsaw. Mar
Maru [420]
Her flight was 9 hours and 20 minutes.

Since 9 A.M. Karachi time is the same as 5 A.M. Warsaw time, we can take the time on her watch, Warsaw time, and subtract 4 to get the Karachi time.

Her watch said she left at 9:40 A.M.  This is Warsaw time.

9:40 - 4 = 5:40 Karachi time.

Her flight took from 5:40 A.M. Karachi time to 3:00 P.M. Karachi time.  This is 9 hours and 20 minutes.

Carla packed this box with 1-centimeter cubes. What is the volume of
Tomtit [17]

well i cannot see the box... but I can tell you how to solve the exercise.

imagine the box has height H, width W and Length L

the volume of said box would be V = H*W*L

now imagine that Carla's box was similar to this one.

and she filled this box with 1 cm cubes, assuming the height to be 3 cm

v= (number of cubes height) *(number of cubes width) *(number of cubes length) = 3 * 3 * 5  cubic cm= 45 cubic cm
