Groundwater Today

I understand that water is always on the move. From the time the earth was formed, it has been endlessly circulating through the hydrologic cycle. Groundwater is an important part of this continuous cycle as water evaporates, forms clouds, and returns to earth as precipitation. The concept of how at a certain depth the ground, if it is permeable enough to allow water to move through it, is saturated with water.

Over 50% of the United States population depends on groundwater for drinking water. Groundwater is also one of our most important sources of water for irrigation. Unfortunately, groundwater is susceptible to pollutants.Drinking contaminated groundwater can have serious health effects. Materials from the land's surface can move through the soil and end up in the groundwater. For example, pesticides and fertilizers can find their way into groundwater supplies over time. Road salt, toxic substances from mining sites, and used motor oil also may seep into groundwater. In addition, it is possible for untreated waste from septic tanks and toxic chemicals from underground storage tanks and leaky landfills to contaminate groundwater. Diseases such as hepatitis and dysentery may be caused by contamination from septic tank waste. Poisoning may be caused by toxins that have leached into well water supplies. Wildlife can also be harmed.

We don't know how much water there is, how fast we're depleting aquifers, or how long we can use this resource before devastating effects take place, like drying up of wells or rivers. I say this because new research has found that the world's sources for groundwater could be depleted before the year 2050.Groundwater is the largest freshwater resource around the world, but as demand is increasing, availability is decreasing.

________ are the central nervous system cells that provide structural support, promote efficient communication between neurons,
Vlad [161]

Answer:

The correct answer to fill in the blank is: glial cells.

Explanation:

Glial cells are the other type of cells aside from neurons that are present in the nervous system.

Glial cells are present both in the Central Nervous System and the Peripheral Nervous System, but in each of these anatomical divisions, the glial cells differ. For example, in the Central Nervous System there are oligodendrocytes (form myelin), astrocytes (provides nutrition for the neurons, maintains the ionic balance, repairs the tissue after damage, and forms the blood-brain barrier), ependymal cells (produces cerebrospinal fluid), and microglia (a specialized macrophage); while in the Peripheral Nervous System there are only Schwann cells (form myelin) and satellite cells (provide nutrients for the neurons).

PLEASE HELP
Alenkinab [10]

Answer:

The ten percent rule, also known as the law of ecological tithe, has to do with the effective transfer of energy that occurs at different trophic levels, corresponding to the use of one tenth of the energy from the immediate previous level.

Explanation:

The 10 percent rule was established by the english naturalist Charles Sutherland Elton, indicating that the transfer of energy from one trophic level to another is only 10 percent. This means that the level immediately above can only use one tenth of the energy produced by the level before it.

What percentage of energy a dolphin would have after it ate a fish, that ate an insect, that ate some grass?

For example, if we say that grass produces 10000 Kcal, the insect that consumes it (primary consumer) will be able to use 1000 Kcal, the fish that consumes insects 100 Kcal and the dolphin that consumes the fish only 100 Kcal.

Grass → Insect → Fish → Dolphin

10000 1000 100 10

In the end the dolphin, a tertiary consumer, will only be able to produce 10 Kcal, when in the food web the producer had 10,000 Kcal.

The 10 percent rule is not entirely accurate, since the effective transfer can be less or more than 10 percent. However, in most cases, the average energy transfer is around 10%, which complies with the rule.

Which property allows objects that do not produce their own light to be seen
Marysya12 [62]
The answer is reflection. Objects that do not produce their own light, reflect light when the light is shone on them. This is because the light bounces off them by reflection. One example is the reflection of sunlight by the moon so it is visible in the night.
