Why is the sickle cell allele a nuisance trait rather than an advantage in most of the modern world?

Biology

Answer:

Sickle cell anaemia is a generic disorder which affects the red blood cells. The red blood cells assumes a sickle shape and contains lesser amount of the protein hemoglobin. Hemoglobin helps in the necessary transport of oxygen to other parts of the body.

The sickle cell allele is known to be advantageous to mainly people who stay in developing/underdeveloped counties who malaria endemic . People with the sickle cell allele have a higher chance of survival against malaria than people without this allele.

In modern countries malaria isn’t prevalent there due to the lack of vectors, poverty and environmental conditions which tends to support the survival of the mosquito. This means the sickle cell allele isn’t advantageous in this region.

The absence of which of these will not affect photosynthesis is - oxygen, Carbon dioxide, water, Chlorophyll, light. Give reason
In-s [12.5K]

Answer:

Oxygen

Explanation:

Oxygen is the by product of photolysis during photosynthesis whereby water molecules are split to form protons (H+ ions), electrons and oxygen (by product).

Oxygen is not needed during any of the reactions in photosynthesis and Calvin cycle and will not affect the rate of photosynthesis or possibility of photosynthesis occurring. However, it will affect the process of aerobic respiration instead.

Carbon dioxide is needed in carbon fixation during the Calvin cycle. Without it, 6 carbon sugars cannot be formed.

Water is needed for photolysis to produce protons (maintain the electrochemical gradient) and electrons (to replenish lost electrons)

Chlorophyll are pigments that harvest light energy to excite electrons produced from photolysis of water to be passed down the electron transport chain.

Light is needed as a source of energy to energise the electrons

Chromosomes contain __________. Chromosomes contain __________. one type of macromolecule: nucleic acid no macromolecules, just
vovikov84 [41]

Answer: two types of macromolecules: nucleic acid and protein

Explanation:

Chromosomes particularly eukaryotic chromosomes are made up of nucleic acids in particular DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and some proteins which include histone proteins and non histone protein that helps in the packaging of an almost 2m DNA into a very tiny 0.6microm nucleus. The histone protein includes H2A, H2B, H3, H4 which forms an octamer around which the DNA is wrapped (structure of a nucleosome) and linker histone H1 joined to a linker DNA that links two nucleosomes.
