I, too sing America, a poem by Langston Hughes, teaches that freedom is the goal. The author raises his statements against the racial discrimination. The concept is that each and everyone should be treated equally and to be included in American society.
The kitchen represents that the author should also be allowed to eat in the table and not in the kitchen. People should have a strong determination about themselves. Also they should not think about racial discrimination that includes differences in color such as white or black and on their appearance. Rather than they should treat people in friendly tone.

Okeke was a dutiful son who has regards for his father and always want to obtain his permission in all that he does. But he also a very determined man and is always ready to stay by his decisions, when he knows that he is doing the right thing for himself. He is a man who does not give up easily and he continues to appeals to his father to change his mind about his marriage even years after the event has happened. Okeke is a kind of man who does not follow custom and traditions blindly, when they do not favour him.
