position, and three items to be discussed.
"Patrick Henry and Dr. Martin Luther King both used persuasive rhetoric that was appropriate and successful with their respective audiences. Considering today's political and social climate, which author's style would be most successful in persuading our society to make a drastic change to our beliefs, laws, or ethics? Write a 5 paragraph essay explaining at least three types of persuasive rhetoric used by the author of your choice, giving examples from the text, and how these types of rhetoric would affect today's general audience.

A. Dr. Martin Luther King's style would be better because he uses rhetoric like appeal to emotion, appeal to logic, and the "I am one of you technique".

B. Dr. Martin Luther King's style would be a better fit for people today because he uses things like appeal to emotion, appeal to logic, and the "I am one of you" technique.

C. Dr. Martin Luther King's style would be better because he uses the appeal to emotion and the appeal to logic techniques which are really effective on people today.

D. Dr. Martin Luther King and Patrick Henry used persuasive rhetoric that was appropriate and successful with their respective audiences. However Dr. King's rhetorical style would be more effective when persuading modern audiences to make a drastic change to their beliefs, laws, or ethics because he uses appeal to emotion, appeal to logic, and the "I am one of you" technique.

Answer:

Iron Maiden's reference to the line from Shakespeare's play is an example of:

B. literary allusion.

Explanation:

The figure of speech known as allusion happens when an author references to something or someone, but in an indirect manner. For instance, suppose you are writing an essay about kindness and selflessness. If you call someone a good Samaritan, you are alluding to a biblical character known for his kindness. When making an allusion, just like that one, the author expects the reader or listener to know what he is talking about. You do not explain what a good Samaritan is, since you expect your readers to know about the biblical story.

That is what we have in Iron Maiden's song: a literary allusion. The composer of the lyrics used lines from Shakespeare's play, from a literary work. He does not explain them, but he expects his listeners to know what he is referencing to.
