At a local election there were two propositions on the ballot, R and S. Twice as many voters voted "yes" for R as for S. If the

number who voted "yes" for R but "no" for S was 750 and the number who voted "yes" for S but "no" for R was 310, how many voted "yes" for both propositions?a. 122b. 127c. 130d. 135

Answer:

c. 130

Step-by-step explanation:

Let call B the quantity of voters who voted yes for both propositions.

From the question we know that twice as many voters voted "yes" for R as for S, that can be written as the following equation:

R+B=2(S+B)

Where R is the number who voted "yes" for R but "no2 for S and S is the number who voted "yes" for S but "no" for R.

Replacing R by 750 and S by 310 and solving for B, we get:

750+B=2(310+B)

750+B=620+2B

2B-B=750-620

B=130

So, 130 voters voted yes for both propositions

What are the two numbers
serious [3.7K]
X=2y/3
x+y=30

plug in the value of x in the second equation to have one variable in the equation...
2y/3+y=30
5y/3=30
then multiply 3 on both sides...
5y=90
divide by 5 on both sides...
y=18
and to solve for x you have to plug in y on either equation...
1st way to solve for x:
x+18=30
subtract 18 on both sides...
x=12
2nd way to solve for x:
x=(18)2/3
you then solve...
x=36/3
x=12

answer: 12,18

Is f(x) = x^2 - 1 a function?<br> Why or why not?
Rudik [331]

Answer:

Yes

Step-by-step explanation:

The function f(x) = x^2 - 1 is a quadratic due to its degree of 2. Its graph is a parabola or u-shaped graph which passes the vertical line test. This means it assigns each input a distinct output. Inputs do not repeat with different outputs. This is a function.
