Jefferson wanted  all social the different social groups in united states to work for a common goal.

Through his speech, he wanted to bring awareness to the fact that United States was founded by immigrants. This country consist of different ethnic groups and races that live together with one another.

Without unity and harmony, these different groups would most likely engaged in pointless conflicts that will tore the country apart.

He believed that In order to achieve proper economic development and national security, each groups had to set aside their difference and work together as a brethren for the good of the whole nation.
