Explanation:

Before the arrival of Joseph Stalin to power in the Soviet Union, the economic system that had been installed was known as the NEP (New economic policy) which mixed features from socialism and capitalism. However, when Stalin assumed power in 1924, and aided by several famines, especially in 1927 and 1928, he decided to install a new, more communist plan, that was called the Five-Year Plan. The idea of this new economic program, was very clear. First, Stalin wanted to make the country ready in case of a foreign attack, and thus needed industries to develop fast. So, through the program, he encouraged industrialization at a really fast pace. The second part, since Russia was really strong agriculturally, was to collectivize agriculture, forcing farmers to transform into state workers, and not own private land. These two were the backbone of the Five-Year Plan.

The results of the industrial revolution were worth the human cost. If you consider what are all the things which we have nowadays as a direct result of the industrial revolution, I think the answer should be quite obvious considering the abundance of goods and the subsequent development of society that followed.
