Triangles ABC and EDC are outlined on a bridge. The triangles share vertex C and angles D and B are right angles. A new bridge s

tructure requires triangles that are in a ratio of 1:1. If AC = 5x − 5 and EC = 3x + 9, find the distance between the top and bottom of the bridge, in feet.

CHECK THE ATTACHED FIQURE FOR THE BRIDGE

Answer:

60 ft

Step-by-step explanation:

From the question we know that triangles ABC and EDC are in a 1:1 with this given ratio it implies that

triangles ABC and EDC are congruent then we can say

side EC = side AC

3x + 9 = 5x - 5

Then we can simplify to know value of x

3x + 14= 5x

2x = 14

x = 7

But we know that AC= 5x - 5 , then substitute value of x into it

AC = 5x + 5 = 5(7) - 5

= 35 - 5

AC= 30 ft

Also EC= 3x + 9 then substitute value of x into it

EC = 3x + 9 = 3(7) + 9

= 21 + 9

EC= 30 ft

Then the the distance between the top and bottom of the bridge, in feet, = EC+AC

= 30 + 30 = 60 ft

Jenn and David shared a candy bar. Jenn ate three tenths. David ate four tenths. How much is left?
Masja [62]

Answer:

\frac{3}{10} should be left in the candy bar.

Step-by-step explanation:

Jenn and David shared a candy bar. Let's assume the bar was split into 10 parts, since 10 is the denominator of the fraction.

First, we need to add how much that the candy bar was eaten so we can subtract easier.

Jenn ate three tenths.

David ate four tenths.

\frac{3}{10}+ \frac{4}{10}=\frac{7}{10}

So, seven tenths of the candy bar was eaten. We need to subtract that from a whole, because we need to know how much candy is left.

\frac{10}{10} -\frac{7}{10} = \frac{3}{10}

So, there are 3/10, or 0.3, of the candy bar left to share later.

A baseball is thrown into the air and follows a parabolic path given by the equation s = -16t 2 + v0t, where s is feet above gro
Alla [95]

Answer: 64 ft

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given the following equation that models the baseball's parabolic path:

s=16t^{2}+V_{o}t (1)

Where:

s is the ball maximum height

t is the time

V_{o}=64 ft/s is the initial height

With this information the equation is rewritten as:

s=16t^{2}+(64)t (2)

Now, we have to find t, and this will be posible with the following formula:

V=V_{o}-gt (3)

Where:

V=0 ft/s is the final velocity of the ball at the point where its height is the maximum

g=32 ft/s^{2} is the acceleration due gravity

Isolating t:

t=\frac{V_{o}}{g} (4)

t=\frac{64 ft/s}{32 ft/s^{2}} (5)

t=2 s (6)

Substituting (6) in (2):

s=16 ft/s^{2}(2 s)^{2}+(64 ft/s)(2 s) (7)

Finally:

s=64 ft
