In some cases, they established a local government subordinated to the dominant country</u>. On the other hand, in locations where they couldn't use the strength to dominate,<u> they create an influence sphere, that could be economical, political or social. </u>However, to the fact these locations were equal (or in some cases, almost equal) to the Europeans powers, this influence sphere was not strong enough.
