The country that released 66 American hostages when Reagan's presidency began is the IRAN. Most of the hostages were diplomats and embassy workers. The hostage takers were then known to be Iranian students and the act of hostage taking happened on November 4, 1979.

<em>Germany was compelled to concede some of its lands to France and other portions of territory to Poland. Severe restrictions were placed on Germany's military after the Great War also. On top of that, Germany was forced to accept blame for causing the war and owed major financial reparations to the nations it fought against.</em>

The reputation of the Harding administration: There were scandals and illegal activity that tarnished the administration.

<em>One of those scandals was the Teapot Dome oil scandal. President Harding was not directly implicated in the scandal, but was affected by it. After Pres. Harding transferred supervision of the naval oil-reserve lands from the navy to the Department of the Interior in 1921, Secretary of the Interior Albert Bacon Fall secretly gave Harry Sinclair of the Mammoth Oil Company exclusive rights to the Teapot Dome reserves in Wyoming. He granted a similar deal to another oil company executive. The secret leases came under Congressional investigation. Congress directed President Harding to cancel the leases, and the Supreme Court ruled that Harding's transfer of authority to Interior Secretary Fall had been illegal. The whole affair took a toll on President Harding's health. He died in office in 1923.</em>
