It was considered one of the darkest times in Britain. it was when the black plague was at its worse. it continued throughout the time of shakespeares rise to fame, but it was beginning to loosen up. people were dropping dead left and right basically. infact. Shakespeare's son I believe died of the disease. regardless, it was a very sick time before Shakespeare
