According to the American Lung Association, 7% of the population has lung disease. Of those having lung disease, 90% are smokers
postnew [5]

Answer:

Probability that a smoker has lung disease = 0.2132

Step-by-step explanation:

Let L = event that % of population having lung disease, P(L) = 0.07

So,% of population not having lung disease, P(L') = 1 - P(L) = 1 - 0.07 = 0.93

S = event that person is smoker

% of population that are smokers given they are having lung disease, P(S/L) = 0.90

% of population that are smokers given they are not having lung disease, P(S/L') = 0.25

We know that, conditional probability formula is given by;

                        P(S/L) = \frac{P(S\bigcap L)}{P(L)}

                        P(S\bigcap L) = P(S/L) * P(L)

                                      = 0.90 * 0.07 = 0.063

So,  P(S\bigcap L) = 0.063 .

Now, probability that a smoker has lung disease is given by = P(L/S)

      P(L/S) = \frac{P(S\bigcap L)}{P(S)}

P(S) = P(S/L) * P(L) + P(S/L') * P(L')

       = 0.90 * 0.07 + 0.25 * 0.93 = 0.2955

Therefore, P(L/S) = \frac{0.063}{0.2955} = 0.2132

Hence, probability that a smoker has lung disease is 0.2132 .

The number 3.892 x 10/6 writing in standard
aniked [119]

To write the number is standard form we need to move the decimal point six times to the right, then:

3.892\times x10^6=3,892,000

therefore the answer is b.

In need of geometry help, once again my stupid brain cant remember anything.
melomori [17]

You cannot rely on the drawing alone to prove or disprove congruences. Instead, pull out the info about the sides and angles being congruent so we can make our decision.

The diagram shows that:

  • Side AB = Side XY (sides with one tick mark)
  • Side BC = Side YZ (sides with double tickmarks)
  • Angle C = Angle Z (similar angle markers)

We have two pairs of congruent sides, and we also have a pair of congruent angles. We can't use SAS because the angles are not between the congruent sides. Instead we have SSA which is not a valid congruence theorem (recall that ambiguity is possible for SSA). The triangles may be congruent, or they may not be, we would need more information.

---------------

So to answer the question if they are congruent, I would say "not enough info". If you must go with a yes/no answer, then I would say "no, they are not congruent" simply because we cannot say they are congruent. Again we would need more information.

A swimming coach needs to choose a team for a relay race. The coach must select 4 of 6 available swimmers
Trava [24]

The number of unique ways is given by the number of possible

combination having distinct members.

The number of unique ways there are to arrange 4 of the 6 swimmers are 15 ways.

Reasons:

The given parameters are;

The number of swimmers available = 6 swimmers

The number of swimmers the coach must select = 4 swimmers

Required:

The number of unique ways to arrange 4 of the 6 swimmers.

Solution:

The number of possible combination of swimmers is given as follows;

_4C_6 = \dfrac{6!}{4! \times (6 - 4)!}  = 15

Therefore, the coach can select 4 of the 6 available swimmers in 15 unique ways
