True

Sometimes when reading a passage, one can become hindered in progress by difficult terms or difficult ideas. When one prereads, one will look over the passage for bolded terms, headings, and maybe even the summaries at the end of the passage in order to gain a preliminary understanding of the content. With this basic understanding of passage content, one will gain a bit of familiarity with content to where it will not be as difficult/challenging when reading the passage the entire way through.

Answer:

True

Explanation:

Prereading is a strategy that uses the method of skimming to focus and discover the main ideas or elements of a text and skip those details that are not as important or specific. This technique allows the reader prior understanding, familiarity and it develops their cognitive skills.

This method also increases a person's efficiency and speed, which are a key part of reading skills.

5. Which sentence uses an informal tone to appeal to an audience of high school students?
Anna [14]

Answer:

4. Being a friend means being respectful, fair, interested, trustworthy, honest, caring, and kind.

Explanation:

When someone is holding a speech, they need to pay attention to what their audience is like. The tone a speaker will use will not be the same when they're speaking to an audience that consists of scientists and one that consists of high school students.

Students mostly use informal language. Informal language is more casual, spontaneous, and personal than formal language, which is always carefully thought out and mostly used in a professional or academic setting.

The sentence that uses informal language is the fourth one. The vocabulary and sentence structure are simple and similar to what we would hear in everyday situations, which is typical for informal language.
