adaptations which enable it to survive in the tundra. It is the largest terrestrial carnivore, but it is also an excellent swimmer that spends much of its time in and near the water hunting its favorite food. It has large paws with small bumps to provide traction as it walks across the ice. Its fur is helpful as camouflage during the winter months, but not as helpful during the summer. Ursus maritimus is the scientific name for polar bear.The polar bears are found in the tundra biome. Tundra is the coldest and driest biome on earth. It is found in the Greenland, coastal zones of the Artic and Alaska, northern Canada and northern Russia. It receives very little rainfall. It exhibit long, winters and short summers. Polar bears are animals that are suitable to survive in the harsh climatic conditions of tundra biome. They are adapted to survive in freezing snow, exhibiting in tundra biome. They are large terrestrial mammals. They have thick insulated fur, which covers warm fat layers. Fur is also present in the bottom of the paws, which protect against cold surfaces and provides good grip on ice surface. The bear white coat camouflage the snow, useful to hide and hunt of pray in snow in winter month but not helpful in summers.
