An artist wants to frame a square painting with an area of 400 square inches.

(a) x is the length of one side of the painting

Area of the square formula is  A = (side)^2

side is x. so area becomes A = (x)^2

We know Area is 400. so the equation becomes

400 = (x)^2

(b) Solve the equation 400 = (x)^2 for x

400 = (x)^2 (take square root on both sides)

When we take square root we put +-

+-20 = x

x = +20 in  and x=-20in

So there are two solutions for the above equation.

(c)No. we know x is length of the side. the length cannot be negative .

So x=-20 inch is not valid

x=20 inches is our only solution.

(d)To find the length of the wood trim needed to go around the painting, we find the perimeter of the square

Perimeter = 4* side

= 4* x = 4* 20 = 80 inches

A. A = lw, because it is a square l = w, so 400 = x^2. b. square root both sides. sq rt of 400 = + 20 or - 20. so x = + 20 or - 20. c. No, -20 does not make sense because distance (length and width) cannot be negative. d. Perimeter is the distance around a shape. Find the perimeter. For a square, P = 4x, so P = 4(20) = 80. So the length of wood needed to go around the painting is 80 inches.

Artyom0805 [142]

Answer:

10 times the value

Step-by-step explanation:

The value of 8 in the hundreds place (800) is 10 times the value of 8 in the tens place (80).

I figured this out by dividing 800 by 80 = 10.

Brainly users, do your magic please.
Keith_Richards [23]

Answer:

c.) 8/3

Step-by-step explanation:

the two sides must weigh the same, or 12 grams.

the weights labelled x combined with the 4 grams weight should equal 12 grams.

the equation solved for x would be:

3x + 4 = 12

3x = 8

x = 8/3

At a football stadium, 25% of the fans in attendance were teenagers. If there were 130 teenagers at the football stadium, what w
Trava [24]

Answer:

Total number of people in the stadium = 520

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the total number of people in the stadium = x

Since, 25% of the fans are teenagers, number of teenagers in the stadium

= 25% of x

= \frac{25}{100}\times x

= 0,25x

If the number of teenagers in the stadium = 130

0.25x = 130

x = \frac{130}{0.25}

x = 520

Therefore, total number of fans in the stadium = 520.
