Texas is part of the west. So, I will use the state as a example;.What comes to mind when you hear Texas you might think of cowboys, ice tea, sayings like wot n tar nation, and chivalry. While this might apply to some part of Texas it wont apply to all of Texas. The same goes to the rest of the west.

Life in the real West was gritty, difficult, and often depressing. Settlers who moved out West faced tremendous challenges to eke out a living as farmers or ranchers. Yes, there were families and communities who pulled together to create a livable life. But there were also many who fell victim to disease and hardship and chronic poverty conditions. Those who rushed out to California to find a fortune during the Gold Rush mostly were disappointed and had to struggle to find jobs and basic income. Life in the real West usually didn't live up to the hopes of those who sought a new start in life there.

As for the romantic image of the noble American cowboy doing battle against the violent Indians, that too is a very glossed-over and glamorized portrayal. As Michael Phillips, coauthor of the textbook, The American Challenge: A New History of the United States, has explained, popular books and radio programs and film portrayed a few Native American characters positively, "though in a subservient, patronizing light. ... Indians usually served as the enemies of white progress in these cowboy melodramas. American audiences easily confused myth with reality." The mythic West became an inspiration for later American imperialism in the Philippines, subjugating a "lesser people."

Why does Thomas Paine question British authority to rule the colonies in common sense
erma4kov [3.2K]
Well I'm not sure how to answer ur question, but here's what I do know bout it. It might help.

The Common Sense was a 46 page pamphlet written by an Englishman (and former tax collector). In it he argues, in plain English, why America should be a separate country from England and why war is the only hope left.

Impact: Most widely published work in American history (more popular than Harry potter!) Read aloud at town hall meetings, it's simple language convinces many people that war against England is the right thing to do.

Answer:

This advice to President Harry Truman helped influence Truman's decision to develop the Marshall Plan.

Explanation:

On April 3th, 1948, Truman signed the Cooperation Act which was based on George C. Marshall's ideas: If America wanted to set a world order in which democracy and market economy were not threatened, it was necessary to help European Nations which were still free from Soviet influence to recover from the disaster caused by WWII.

European nations enthusiastically attached to the plan and collaborated from the start. This act gave origin to the European Recovery Program, also known as the Marshall Plan.
