Five Forks was such an important strategic position for Lee and the Confederate Army because it was a point that made the Confederacy able to control the South Side Railroad.

Once the Confederates lost Five Forks on April, 1865, the cities of Petersburg and Richmond were put in danger, as the Confederates had lost a rapid way to reach those cities to defend them.

I believe that the reason why the Five Forks were such an important strategy position for Lee and his army because it was his rail link with the rest of the Confederacy.

What made the united states and the soviet union emerged from the war as super powers?
Ymorist [56]
Most of the other Countries in world war 2 ended up having terrible post-war economies. While the US and Soviet Union's economies did crash, they didn't as bad as some other countries like France and the UK's did. Another reason the Soviet Rose was because under Joseph Stalin the economy was centralized because of Communism ;D. Then the biggest reason is that they both had developed very powerful Nuclear weapons.
