Correct answer: b. advertisement

Explanation:

In his book, The Triumph of William McKinley (2015), political strategist Karl Rove wrote, "McKinley and his managers placed a premium on organization, applying business methods to politics, particularly to the tasks of persuasion and mobilization.” McKinley's campaign raised nearly $4 million (compared to his competitor's campaign funds of just $300,000). The McKinley used this massive financial advantage to send out 250 million pieces of campaign mail, targeted especially at voters in swing states.

Context:

William McKinley was the Republican candidate in 1896. William Jennings Bryan was the Democrat candidate. McKinley got 7,104,779 votes in the popular vote, and 271 Electoral College votes. Bryan received 6,502,925 popular votes, netting 176 Electoral College votes.

According to 270 To Win, the 1896 presidential election is considered "to be one of the most dramatic and complex in American history." In 1896, there were 447 Electoral College votes, with 247 needed to win. McKinley carried the states of the Northeast and the Midwest. Bryan won Southern states as well as most states in the West, with the exception of Oregon and California, which went to McKinley. [Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Arizona were territories at that time, not yet states.]

Cerrena [4.2K]

The ultimate goal of the United States in their intervention in Mexico in 1914 was to have a neighbor that is stable, that they will be able to influence and control to a certain level, and protect their economic and political interest.

The intervention of the United States was a very variable and very controversial. They did not stick with one side to support, but instead they were changing sides, usually supporting the person in power, except when the French intervened too.

Also, the USA openly threatened Mexico that it will use military power in order to protect its interests and its citizens that own businesses and property in the country.
