The Tinker v. Des Moines case of 1969 was the first case that involved a ruling by the US Supreme Court involving the First Amendment freedom of speech in school environments. The court upheld the student’s right to express their views concerning the Vietnam War over the school’s decision to regulate all forms of expression when acting in loco parentis. The decision in the Tinker v. Des Moines case was believed by many people to allow students to exercise all the First Amendments Rights in school including the freedom of press.
