What is the expected size of the plasmid plus the cut foreign dna? 2. what type of ends do the enzymes bamhi and ecori produce?

how does this type of end facilitate cloning? 3. what enzyme is necessary to permanently link the digested foreign and plasmid dna together to form the recombinant dna molecule? how does this enzyme work?

Answer:

  1. The size of the plasmid can be up to 200kbp, you can blast the sequence to determine which plasmid it is and what is its length. This way you can subtract the length from the total length of the plasmid to calculate the length of the foreign DNA insert.
  2. The enzymes EcoRI and BamHI produce 'sticky ends'. This means that the single stranded ends at the terminal can be joined due to complementary bases.
  3. The enzyme is known as DNA ligase, it works by forming a bond between the phosphate group on one strand and the deoxyribose group on the strand it is being joined with.

Hope that answers the question, have a great day!

Define embryonic stem cells. Explain the pros and cons of Embryonic Stem Cells
just olya [345]

Answer:

Embryonic stem cells are pluripotent stem cells derived from the inner cell mass of a blastocyst, an early-stage pre-implantation embryo. Human embryos reach the blastocyst stage 4–5 days post fertilization, at which time they consist of 50–150 cells.

Explanation:

 Adult Stem Cells

Embryonic Stem Cells

Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells

Pros

Trans differentiate and and reprogramming of these cells is possible but is not well studied

Thought to be less likely to be rejected if used in transplants

Success has already been demonstrated in various clinical applications

Can maintain and grow for 1 year or more in culture

Established protocols for maintenance in culture

ESCs are pluripotent cells that can generate most cell types

By studying ESCs, more can be learned about the process of development

Abundant somatic cells of donor can be used

Issues of histocompatibility with donor/recipient transplants can be avoided

Very useful for drug development and developmental studies

Information learned from the “reprogramming” process may be transferable for in vivo therapies to reprogram damaged or diseased cells/tissues

Cons

Limitations on ASC ability to differentiate are still uncertain; currently thought to be multi or unipotent.

Cannot be grown for long periods of time in culture

Usually a very small number in each tissue making them difficult to find and purify

Currently there is no technology available to generate large quantities of stem cells in culture

Process to generate ESC lines is inefficient

Unsure whether they would be rejected if used in transplants.

Therapies using ESC avenues are largely new and much more research and testing is needed

If used directly from the ESC undifferentiated culture prep for tissue transplants, they can cause tumors (teratomas) or cancer development

Methods for ensured reproducibility and maintenance, as differentiated tissues are not certain.

Viruses are currently used to introduce embryonic genes and has been shown to cause cancers in mouse studies

What are two factors that increase a woman's risk for breast cancer? Maintaining a healthy weight and exercising regularly Eatin
Fed [463]
Factors that increase a woman's risk for breast cancer surely do not include maintaining a healthy weight and exercising regularly nor eating a low fat diet.

A risk factors that has been consistently shown, however, in research is that having a family record of this disease; Genetic factors, and being overweight or rather obese, both seem to increase the risk of developing breast cancer.

Scientific names are understood by all scientists because the names are written in
Nuetrik [128]

Answer:

A. binomial system

B. According to taxon

Explanation:

A. The binomial system of nomenclature brings order to a chaotic world of common names. No two kinds of animals have the same binomial name, and every animal has only one correct name, as required by the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, thereby avoiding the confusion that common names cause.

B. Any grouping of animals that shares a particular set of characteristics forms an assemblage called a taxon. For example, a housefly (<u>Musca</u> <u>domestica</u>), although obviously unique, shares certain characteristics with other flies (the most important of these being a single pair of wings). Based on these similarities, all true flies form a logical, more inclusive taxon. Further, all true flies share certain characteristics with bees, butter-flies, and beetles. Thus, these animals form an even more inclusive taxon. They are all insects.
