a = 11(4b + c)       Multiply/distribute 11 into (4b + c)  [multiply 11 to 4b and c]

a = 44b + 11c      Subtract 44b on both sides

a - 44b = 11c       Divide 11 on both sides to get "c" by itself

\frac{a-44b}{11}=c   You can simplify it to this(but Idk if you have to):

\frac{a}{11}-4b=c

Two trains, Train A and Train B, weigh a total of 489 tons. Train A is heavier than Train B. The difference of their weights i
makvit [3.9K]

Answer:

Weight of Train A = 454 tons

Weight of Train B = 35 tons

Step-by-step explanation:

It is given that:

Let,

A represent weight of Train A

B represent weight of Train B

According to given information:

A + B = 489      Eqn 1

A - B = 419       Eqn 2

Adding Eqn 1 and 2

A + B + A - B = 489 + 419

2A = 908

Dividing both sides by 2

\frac{2A}{2}=\frac{908}{2}\\A = 454

Putting A = 454 in Eqn 1

454 + B = 489

B = 489 - 454

B = 35

Therefore,

Weight of Train A = 454 tons

Weight of Train B = 35 tons
