I would think that people in a different town would think my town is complicated and boring. I moved where I live now last summer and I love it. I see things a little different in like building in such because This new town feels different than other towns.

He was saying that despite being a famous Army Officer, General Corrigan was a man who never forgot where he came or the people he grew up with.  Despite his honors and rank, he was still same kid the narrator knew from many years ago.
