in a function, every input must give only 1 output

an example of a function is an elevator: if you push button for 1st floor, it takes you to 1st floor and not 1st and 4th floor

in the given example, it is not a function because the value of 2 in the domain outputs 2 different values in the range (21 and 25)

it would be like pushing a button on the elevator and the elevaor sometimes takes you to floor 3 and sometimes takes you to floor 5

A mathematical statement that two expressions are equal is called a(n) ______.
zhannawk [14.2K]

Answer:

an equation

Step-by-step explanation:

A mathematical statement that two expressions are equal is called an equation.

The word "equation" comes from the same root as "equality"...  so is two sides of an expression are of equal values, they form an equation, like A = B.

When both sides of a statement are not equal to each other, that is an inequality, meaning NOT equal, like A > B.
