There are three major types of plate boundaries. If two tectonic plates collide, they form a convergent plate boundary. Usually, one of the converging plates will move beneath the other, which is known as subduction. Deep trenches are often formed where tectonic plates are being subducted and earthquakes are common.

In a collision, a 50.0 kg mass moving at 10.0 m/s transfers all of its momentum to a 25.0 kg mass. What is the velocity of the 2
svetoff [14.1K]

Answer:

Velocity B = 20 m/s

Explanation:

Let the mass and velocity of the first object be A.

Let the mass and velocity of the second object be B.

Given the following data;

Mass A = 50 kg

Velocity A = 10 m/s

Mass B = 25 kg

To find the velocity of mass B;

First of all, we would determine the momentum of mass A;

Mathematically, momentum is given by the formula;

Momentum = mass * velocity

Substituting into the formula, we have;

Momentum A = 50 * 10

Momentum A = 500 Kgm/s

As a result of the collision, momentum of mass A is equal to the momentum of mass B.

Momentum A = Momentum B

500 = mass B * velocity B

500 = 25 * velocity B

Velocity B = 500/25

Velocity B = 20 m/s

Therefore, the velocity of the 25.0 kilogram mass after the collision is 20 meters per seconds.
