Inaccurate perceptions are wrong perceptions about something.
Inaccurate perceptions arises, when perceptions or one’s own views or ideas about something are so fixed that altering them becomes difficulty and a person thinks what he or she is only right, and does not value other’s thoughts or perceptions about the same thing.
In the above case, even though Carter tells to Nikolai that the play (Titanic) is very exciting, Nikolai does not believe him because according to his perception plays are boring. So this will make him to miss a chance of watching and enjoying a very interesting play like Titanic.
Inaccurate perceptions often mislead our judgment and one might miss valuable opportunities or chances, lead to wrong conceptions in a relationship etc.
Hence, one must think, analyze and judge accurately and avoid inaccurate perceptions

Be aware with who you are with. Knowing peoples intentions. Making sure you are safe and having someone with you.
Have you explained it to him? If you did, then he should understand. I'm gonna give you advice based on what I would do.
I would like to get to know him more as friends, and tell him that eventually we could be more, but for now I am still hung up on my ex and I need more time to move on. And getting to know him more in a could-be relationship stand point would give you a chance to see if he really loves you or not.
Sometimes people like to guilt-trip people back into relationships even if you don't want to be in one right at that point. It's happened to me before, and it sucks.
