Prediction is a skill in reading that keeps the reader actively involved. It helps the reader to anticipate the course of a book or passage. Several aids help the reader make predictions. These include; headings, pictorial illustrations, graphs, among others.
If the reader wants to ascertain the contents of a particular section, he would do well to study the heading of that section. Predicting other parts of a book might require the use of other aids. For example, to predict the story contained in a book, the title and cover illustration would provide the best insight.
