Es una combinación de cuatro campos que en algunos casos son más o menos diferentes entre sí , pero en menor medida o en absoluto en otros contextos. Estos cuatro campos son salud sexual , derechos sexuales, salud reproductiva y derechos reproductivos . En el concepto de SRHR, estos cuatro campos son vistos como separados, pero intrínsecamente interconectados.

Las diferencias entre estos cuatro campos no son siempre. La salud sexual y la salud reproductiva a veces se consideran sinónimos entre sí, al igual que los derechos sexuales y los derechos reproductivos. En algunos casos, los derechos sexuales se incluyen en el término salud sexual, o viceversa.
