When she sees Atticus confronting the mob in front of the jailhouse, she does not know what was actually wrong, but she instinctively wants to go to her father and by doing so, she finds herself in front of a crowd of unfamiliar faces and she is the center of attention because everyone was watching her.

Ultimately the cumulative weight of recollecting these small acts of kindness by Atticus and Scout moves Mr. Cunningham to relent and disperse the crowd of vigilantes with him.
