The right answer is: B) The church issued(...)secular law. As secularization does not annul the religious character,   it is different from the absolute dispensation of vows; this is also an indulgent measure, but in cancels the vows and their obligations, and the dispenser is no longer a religious.

Answer:

B) The Church issued interdicts, laws passed by the Church regardless of secular law.

Explanation:

This is one of the ways in which the Catholic Church was able to gain secular power. The Church theoretically only deals with matters of spirituality. However, it has often gotten involved in secular life, including law and politics. By issuing interdicts, the Church was able to go against secular law. This meant that Christians were forced to pick which authority to respect, which often meant following the Church.

Hardin Hardin uses a Lifeboat metaphor to introduce his argument. What is the central idea of this argument?
Rudiy27

Hi!

The central idea of the metaphor was that the people in the lifeboat are the rich nations, whereas those that are drowning are the poor nations.

This metaphor is known as lifeboat ethics, and is used to illustrate the distribution of resources.

The metaphor depicts a lifeboat which is boarded by 50 people (the wealthy nations), and 100 people swimming in the surrounding water at risk of drowning. The 'ethical issue' is stirred by the fact that there is room for 10 more people on this lifeboat, and if the surrounding people should be taken aboard -and if so, what would be the conditions of such an act.

Hope this helps!
