After the death of Tokugawa Shogun in 1868 the emperor was again in full control and had all the powers. He took the name of Meiji and wanted to restore Japan's previous glory. It actually crossed the expectations and after the death of the emperor in 1912 Japan was far ahead than expected. It had a centralized bureaucratic government. It had a very well developed communication and transportation system. It also had a powerful army and navy.

1) Women played an important role, seeing as they had to take on the jobs that men used to do. It also saw a rise in female independence, which formed larger roles for them in the years following.

2) The major, and probably main, reason the United States entered WW1 was the sinking of the Lusitania among the sinking of many other ships. A lot of Americans died on the Lusitania, prompting growing tensions over the line. the Zimmerman Telegram also played a major role in the entry of America to the war.

3) America initially kept out of it, due to trade deals with both the Allies and the Central Powers. It was also said that America should not join a war that threatens its own shores.

4) The Great Migration was a major event that impacted southern African-Americans.

5) Over 500,000 southern African Americans moved North, to Cleveland, New York, etc.

6) Fort Jackson was opened so that the United States could properly train their soldiers for combat. It’s located in Columbia.

7) It increased due to need for more fabric for uniforms.

8) Fort Jackson (1917) was the major new base, although many were reopened.

9) African-Americans moves north due to segregation and racism.

10)WW1 was deadly due to rapid enhancements of machinery and military tactics, that many of the soldiers and officers did not see coming (EG; tanks, planes, gas)
