KATRIN_1 [288]

Answer:

\dfrac{df^{1}(16)}{dx} = \pm \dfrac{1}{10}

Step-by-step explanation:

f(x) = x^2 + 4x - 5

First we find the inverse function.

y = x^2 + 4x - 5

x = y^2 + 4y - 5

y^2 + 4y - 5 = x

y^2 + 4y = x + 5

y^2 + 4y + 4 = x + 5 + 4

(y + 2)^2 = x + 9

y + 2 = \pm\sqrt{x + 9}

y = -2 \pm\sqrt{x + 9}

f^{-1}(x) = -2 \pm\sqrt{x + 9}

f^{-1}(x) = -2 \pm (x + 9)^{\frac{1}{2}}

Now we find the derivative of the inverse function.

\dfrac{df^{-1}(x)}{dx} = \pm \dfrac{1}{2}(x + 9)^{-\frac{1}{2}}

\dfrac{df^{-1}(x)}{dx} = \pm \dfrac{1}{2\sqrt{x + 9}}

Now we evaluate the derivative of the inverse function at x = 16.

\dfrac{df^{-1}(16)}{dx} = \pm \dfrac{1}{2\sqrt{16 + 9}}

\dfrac{df^{-1}(16)}{dx} = \pm \dfrac{1}{2\sqrt{25}}

\dfrac{df^{-1}(16)}{dx} = \pm \dfrac{1}{2 \times 5 }

\dfrac{df^{-1}(16)}{dx} = \pm \dfrac{1}{10}

The length of a rectangle is 4 feet shorter than its width. the area of the rectangle is 42 square feet. find the length and wid
goldfiish [28.3K]
Let the length of the rectangle to be a value, x.

Since you are told that the length is 4 feet shorter than width, then, this can only mean that
width = (x+4)
The area of a rectangle = length × width.
                                      = x(x+4) = 42
                                      =x² + 4x=42
 From here form the quadratic equation then solve it to get the value of x (length of the rectangle)

x²+4x-42=0
Using the quadratic formula,

x = -4 + or - (√(16-4×1×-42))÷2

At this point I had a problem with inserting an equation in this platform. So, i have done it have attached a file that explains the above statement. Kindly find it in the attachment below.

x = (-4+or - 13.56)÷2
  = 9.56÷2
  =4.78 feet
The length to the nearest foot = 5 feet.
The width to the nearest foot = 5+4 = 9 feet.

A rectangular area is to be fenced in with 600 feet of chicken wire. find the maximum area that can be enclosed.
Kryger [21]
600 ft is the perimeter of the area.
the area of the area is max when it's a square
the length of the square is 600/4 = 150
so the max area that can be enclosed is:
150×150 = 22500 ft square
