Factor the expression 4x^2 - 12x - 7

Mathematics
1 answer:
alexdok [17]3 years ago
7 0

Answer:

(2x+1) (2x-7)

Step-by-step explanation:

Multiply the coefficient of the first term by the constant   4 • -7 = -28

Find two factors of  -28  whose sum equals the coefficient of the middle term, which is   -12

(  -28    +    1    =    -27

     -14    +    2    =    -12  )

Rewrite the polynomial splitting the middle term using the two factors found in step 2 above,  -14  and  2

                    4x2 - 14x + 2x - 7

Add up the first 2 terms, pulling out like factors :

                   2x • (2x-7)

             Add up the last 2 terms, pulling out common factors :

                    1 • (2x-7)

Add up the four terms :

                   (2x+1)  •  (2x-7)

What’s the answer?and how do you get it
Kay [80]

the solid is made up of 2 regular octagons, 8 sides, joined up by 8 rectangles, one on each side towards the other octagonal face.

from the figure, we can see that the apothem is 5 for the octagons, and since each side is 3 cm long, the perimeter of one octagon is 3*8 = 24.

the standing up sides are simply rectangles of 8x3.

if we can just get the area of all those ten figures, and sum them up, that'd be the area of the solid.

\bf \textit{area of a regular polygon}\\\\ A=\cfrac{1}{2}ap~~ \begin{cases} a=apothem\\ p=perimeter\\[-0.5em] \hrulefill\\ a=5\\ p=24 \end{cases}\implies A=\cfrac{1}{2}(5)(24)\implies \stackrel{\textit{just for one octagon}}{A=60} \\\\[-0.35em] \rule{34em}{0.25pt}\\\\ \stackrel{\textit{two octagon's area}}{2(60)}~~+~~\stackrel{\textit{eight rectangle's area}}{8(3\cdot 8)}\implies 120+192\implies 312

Solve the following formula for x<br> y= 8mx + 5b
ANEK [815]

Answer:

Solve the following formula for x

y= 8mx + 5b

answer is

x= y-5b/8m

Step-by-step explanation:

from  the equation y= 8mx + 5b

to solve for x

we have ; y - 5b = 8mx

divide both sides by 8m

y - 5b/ 8m = x

What is the value of st÷(6r) if r=5, s=32, and t=45
Lana71 [14]
S = 32 and t = 45

You replace the letters into numbers...

Since (st) is the same thing as (s × t), it would be 32 × 45, which equals to 1,440.

Then replace the r with 5, so now it's (6 × 5), instead of (6r).

st ÷ (6r) → 1,440 ÷ 30 = 48

Value of st ÷ (6r) = 48

Which statement best describes a polygon?
timofeeve [1]
I don't think all of the answer choices are here since they are all the same except for 4. However, the best statement to describe a polygon is that it is a closed plane figure with three or more sides that are straight. The correct answer is A.
