Importing food from abroad (i.e. from South Africa) adds to the size of a carbon footprint because the amount of fuels used, (oil, petrol, diesel, kerosene and many more), increases with the distance travelled...

And more fuels that are burnt in the preparation of the product, transporting the product to the distribution centres, shipping and deliveries results in the increase the amount of CO2 and other greenhouse gases which eventually, in the long term, add to Climate Change/Global Warming...
