The railroads which stretched thousands of miles across Texas, enabled ranchers and farmers transport their products which were mainly cattle, lumber and cotton, efficiently. Texas became a leading producer and supplier of cattle as ranching businesses were greatly improved by the railroads.

The railroads replaced cowboys who were the main means of getting cattle to the market because it was faster and economical. Ranchers were able to transport cattle as far as Canada and across the United States.
