Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia and Union General George McClellan’s Army. Lee was making an attempt to invade the north.

During the battle, All of Lee’s troops became worn-out and hungry, and many were sick. They were also outnumbered by two to one, seeing the effect the war was having on his side, Lee had to move his ravaged troops back to Virginia.
