Two types of barrel units were in use in the 1920s in the united states. the apple barrel had a legally set volume of 7056 cubic

inches; the cranberry barrel, 5826 cubic inches. if a merchant sells 41 cranberry barrels of goods to a customer who thinks he is receiving apple barrels, what is the discrepancy in the shipment volume in liters (l)? give your answer as a positive number.

1.) 7,056 * 41 = 289,296 (apple barrel volume * no. of barrels sold)
     5,826 * 41 = 238,866 (cranberry barrel volume * no. of barrels sold)

2.) Subtract cranberry barrel volume from apple barrel volume
    289,296 - 238,866 = 50,430 cubic inches

3.) Convert 50,430 cubic inches to liters
     50,430 = 826.39 liters or 826.40 liters (rounded off)

4.) Therefore, 826.40 liters is the discrepancy in the shipment volume.

Suppose that 70% of the orders on a particular website are shipped to the person who is making the order and the remaining 30% a
Lera25 [3.4K]

Answer:

0.18 ; 0.1875 ; No

Step-by-step explanation:

Let:

Person making the order = P

Other person = O

Gift wrapping = w

P(p) = 0.7 ; P(O) = 0.3 ; p(w|O) = 0.60 ; P(w|P) = 0.10

What is the probability that a randomly selected order will be a gift wrapped and sent to a person other than the person making the order?

Using the relation :

P(W|O) = P(WnO) / P(O)

P(WnO) = P(W|O) * P(O)

P(WnO) = 0.60 * 0.3 = 0.18

b. What is the probability that a randomly selected order will be gift wrapped?

P(W) = P(W|O) * P(O) + P(W|P) * P(P)

P(W) = (0.60 * 0.3) + (0.1 * 0.7)

P(W) = 0.18 + 0.07

P(W) = 0.1875

c. Is gift wrapping independent of the destination of the gifts? Justify your response statistically

No.

For independent events the occurrence of A does not impact the occurrence if the other.

Mary and Roberto go to the movies. They buy a large popcorn for $8.50, and two medium sodas for $4.25. How much did they spend a
alukav5142 [94]

Answer:

$19.15

Step-by-step explanation:

Equation 1: 8.50+4.25+4.25= 17.00  (price of the popcorn and drinks)

Equation 2: 17.00/7.89= 2.15                       (how to find how much the tax is)

Solve: 17.00+2.15=19.15                     (add the tax to how much the popcorn and drinks were)

Solve equation, check for extraneous solutions
fiasKO [112]

Start with

1=\dfrac{1}{n^2}+\dfrac{n^2-4n-5}{3n^2}

We observe that both fractions are not defined if n=0. So, we will assume n \neq 0.

We multiply both numerator and denominator of the first fraction by 3 and we sum the two fractions:

1=\dfrac{3}{3n^2}+\dfrac{n^2-4n-5}{3n^2} = \dfrac{n^2-4n-2}{3n^2}

We multiply both sides by 3n^2:

n^2-4n-2=3n^2

We move everything to one side and solve the quadratic equation:

2n^2+4n+2=0 \iff 2(n^2+2n+1)=0 \iff 2(n+1)^2=0 \iff n+1=0 \iff n=-1

We check the solution:

1=\dfrac{1}{1}+\dfrac{1+4-5}{3} \iff 1 = 1+0

which is true
