Most of the prehistoric art was of the animals they saw or hunted every day. These subjects included animals such as bison, reindeer, horses, and even mammoth. One possibility is that these Stone Age people were creating paintings purely for aesthetic purposes: they just wanted to beautify their surroundings. However, there is a possibility they were telling other humans what was safe to eat. In pictures painted of Prehistoric animals, it's possible they used their paintings as communication, telling each other how to catch, kill, and pick their prey.
