The antibacterial activity of penicillin is related to the inhibition of a key bacterial enzyme. Explain this mechanism of enzym
serious [3.7K]

Answer:

Penicillin binds and inhibits bacterial enzyme DD-transpeptidase.

Explanation:

Penicillin is made up of 4 rings of β-lactam and acts by binding to DD-transpeptidase of bacteria. The DD-transpeptidase facilitates the cross-linking of the peptidoglycan cell wall of bacteria. This leads to malformation of the protective cell wall of the bacteria and causes it to lyze and die.

Photosynthesis occurs in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. How do the locations where photosynthesis occurs differ in prokaryotes
mamaluj [8]

Answer/Explanation:

In eukaryotes, photosynthesis occurs mainly in green plants. These organisms have specialized organelles called chloroplasts that carry out photosynthesis. These contain photoreceptors that absorb photons from the sun through a pigment called chlorophyll, providing the energy to synthesise glucose from carbon dioxide and water.

In contrast, prokaryotes that carry out photosynthesis are able to do so because they have folds in the plasma membrane that permit the attachment of chlorophyll. They do not have specialized membrane-bound organelles like eukaryotes.

Where are the three seismographs used to find the epicenter of this earthquake located?
8090 [49]

Scientists use triangulation to find the epicenter of an earthquake. When seismic data is collected from at least three different locations, it can be used to determine the epicenter by where it intersects. Every earthquake is recorded on numerous seismographs located in different directions. Each seismograph records the times when the first (P waves) and second (S waves) seismic waves arrive. From that information, scientists can determine how fast the waves are traveling. Knowing this helps them calculate the distance from the epicenter to each seismograph.

To determine the direction each wave traveled, scientists draw circles around the seismograph locations. The radius of each circle equals the known distance to the epicenter. Where these three circles intersect is the epicenter.
