The Iran hostage crisis affected negatively the American opinion of President Carter to the point that it probably cost him his second term as President of the United States. On November 4th, 1979, a group of Iranian students stormed the U.S Embassy in Teheran taking more than 60 Americans hostages. This action was a direct result of President Carter's decision of allowing the deposed Shah the possibility of getting medical treatment in the United States.
The students set their hostages free on April of 1981, 444 days after the crisis began and just hours before new elected President Reagan delivered his inaugural address.
