The north was heavily dependent on industry while the south was dependent on agriculture. The southern economy was based on the free work they were getting from slaves the north did not need slaves as they were less dependent on agriculture
I think government systems have their weakness and strengths. Having a just society needs good governance that promotes the welfare of people that also has a strong implementation of the rule of law. Enforcement of the law to create a peaceful community is important.
