Comets are cosmic snowballs of frozen gases, rock and dust that orbit the Sun. When frozen, they are the size of a small town. When a comet's orbit brings it close to the Sun, it heats up and spews dust and gases into a giant glowing head larger than most planets.Comets are believed to have two sources. Long-period comets (those which take more than 200 years to complete an orbit around the Sun) originate from the Oort Cloud. Short-period comets (those which take less than 200 years to complete an orbit around the Sun) originate from the Kuiper Belt.

In which direction does Earth rotate?
jek_recluse [69]

Answer:

eastward around its axis

Explanation:

  • The earth rotates on the axis that passes through the north and the south of the planet and is of 24-hour duration. Similar to that of the rotation of the moon which is sideral, this rotation is in the anticlockwise direction. And this originated by the angular movement of the clouds of the dust and gases that have coalesced to for the solar system.

Why are the mountains thinly populated? Answer long in points . Please!
RUDIKE [14]

Answer:

The main reason why mountains are rarely populated is because of the harsh climate that are dominating in those areas. On the other side, another important reason is that mountainous areas are not fertile enough and people are not able to grow crops. Lack of resources therefore is obliging people to move from the mountains to lower terrains.

Explanation:

Because of the mentioned reasons most of the people since the beginning of civilization were inhabiting river valleys and the areas that have better climate.

For example, Chinese civilization developed in the valley of Yangtze and Huang He and not Himalayas.
