A biologist is in the process of classifying and newly discovered fungus. The fungus is a decomposer and has sac-like structures
alekssr [168]
There are six major 'divisions' of fungi and those which produce sac-like structures are the division called Ascomycota. It is therefore most likely that the new fungus can be classified within this division. This group produces spores in distinctive sac-like structures. Members of the division include yeasts and penicillin.

How can isolation of a group result in a new species?
pogonyaev
Species evolve over time based on their environment.

If part of a group of a species gets isolated into a new environment, then both species (the initial environment and the new one) will evolve differently because of their different environments and in result become different.

So since they both evolve differently based on their different surroundings, the group that was isolated becomes a new species.
