Robert is a high school basketball player. In a particular game, he made some three point shots and some free throws (worth one

point each). Robert made a total of 9 shots altogether and scored a total of 23 points. Write a system of equations that could be used to determine the number of three point shots Robert made and the number of free throws he made. Define the variables that you use to write the system.

Answer:

let t = number of three-point shots

let f = number of free throw shots

Step-by-step explanation:

t + f = 9      (he made a total of 9 shots altogether)

3t + 1f = 23   (number of shots multiplied by their point value)

substitution method:   t = 9 - f

                                    3(9 - f) + f = 23

                                     27 - 3f + f = 23

                                      -2f = -4

                                         f = 2

find 't':                               t + 2 = 9

                                         t = 7

The sum of two numbers is
bekas [8.4K]
Okay you have 2 sum unknow lets call them X+Y

so X+Y=33, 4X=108

Get X by it self then plug it in 4X=108

X=-Y+33
4(-y+33)= 108
-4y+132=108 Then subtract the 132
-4y=-24 Y=6 then to find X subtract 33-6=27
Y=6 X=27 if you check it works out
